Your author page stays private until you publish it, so you can build it in peace and go live only when it looks right.
Use Preview in the Page Editor to open your page in a new tab exactly as visitors will see it.
Use the Mobile view to check how it looks on a phone, most of your readers will be on one.
When you are happy, click Publish in the top bar. Publishing makes your latest saved version live. You can unpublish again at any time, which returns your page to private without deleting anything.
